Camp del Corazon is held at Catalina Island Camps located at
Howland’s Landing, a private cove on the leeward side of
beautiful Catalina Island. Just 22 miles off the coast of
Southern California, Howland’s Landing is surrounded by
magnificent ocean views and breezes. Our cove is approximately
three miles, by boat, west of Two Harbors, a small boating
community located at the Isthmus of Catalina Island. We are
approximately 20 miles west of Avalon, the main "city" on the
Island.

Within our sheltered cove, our pier extends into the bay
providing the focal point for swimming, boating and other water
activities. On shore, our main lodge contains the camp food
service center which faces the shaded Dining Terrace. Rustic
bunkhouses and open-sided chalets are located on each side of
the Dining Terrace and along the shore. Complete bathroom and
shower facilities are adjacent to each living area. Tennis
courts, basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, tetherballs
and playing fields are located between the Dining Terrace and
the beach.
Camp del Corazon Activities
Camp Del Corazon provides a variety of fun and exciting
activities for campers of all ages. All of the activities are
lead by trained Activity Counselors and supervised by one of our
Med Nurses. Our on site physicians not only oversee all medical
needs of our campers but are known to jump in and play and/or
teach some of the activities as well. At Camp Del Corazon all
volunteer staff members attend staff training prior to working
with our children. Each day the campers attend 5 to 6 activity
periods accompanied by their cabin counselors.

The Morning Hike
There’s nothing better than starting out the morning with short
hike with Zeus and Xena (our CEO and Executive Director), unless
it’s attending “Wake & Win” where raffle tickets are given out
for correct trivia answers and card games, with prize drawings
during breakfast. Both activities are designed to get the
campers up and ready for the day.

The Climbing Wall
Campers are encouraged to safely climb to the top of the wall
with the help of their leaders, and the cheers of their cabin
mates. The Ropes Course is at the Catalina Camp for teens only
and offers three courses for campers to push their own limits
and abilities, all the while being harnessed in and monitored by
trained belay experts.

Adventure Games
These games are designed help build team power! All games
encourage listening and cooperation skills as well promote
self-esteem.

Waterfront Activities
All campers have the opportunity to kayak, swim, play inner tube
water polo and go down the giant slide. Older campers also have
the option of snorkeling and participating in powerboat fun,
including tubing. Trained lifeguards oversee each activity in
addition to one or two counselors at all times!

Archery/Riflery
Campers shoot at the bull's-eye targets at the archery field after
learning all the safety rules. Some become as good as William
Tell!

Arts and Crafts
Every year brings new and different arts and crafts projects
including friendship bracelets, tie-dye shirts and pillowcases,
mosaic tiles and leather tooling. It is also at this activity
that campers are encouraged to write notes of thanks to be
distributed to the donors who make camp possible.

Boom-Ball
An absolute favorite! The game is similar like softball, but the
bat is actually huge water cooler bottle. The BOOM can be heard
all over camp!

Court Games
Campers have the option of court or field game to play. Options
include basketball, tennis, Ultimate Frisbee, or just throwing a
football or dancing. Full cabin participation is encouraged, but
also allows for campers to build bonds with other peers.

Volleyball
At Camp del Corazon, volleyball is a little different… the ball
is 20 times the size of a real volleyball, and is filled with
helium and air. The campers have a crazy, fun time playing with
one of the camp doctors.

Evening Program
Each night of camp the Camp Director and Unit Directors put on a
wonderful program for the campers never to be forgotten. You
never know what will happen next.

Evening Campfire
One night of each camp session everyone meets in the Air-Stream
Theater (Catalina) or the Amphitheater (Malibu) where campers
and staff put on crazy shows and skits. Songs are led by the
Directors, and then as the fire slowly burns down, we tell quiet
stories and gaze at the stars. It is at the campfire that
s’mores are made and stories of the day’s activities are shared.

Disco Bingo
This is one of the all-time favorite evening programs. Everyone
comes dressed in disco clothes - the crazier the better. An
All-Camp Bingo game is played each time someone yells, “Bingo!”
the whole camp gets up and dances to a popular disco song. Great
prizes are handed out and memories are made with each game!

The Beach BBQ
What a night! Our volunteer doctor “Burger King” leads a BBQ
team and serves up a delicious buffet for the whole camp!
